Limited spreads the Forty Thieves pack thinner than any other member of the family: twelve tableau columns of three cards instead of ten of four. Thirty-six cards sit face up from the first click and sixty-eight wait in the stock. The name describes the deal rather than a restriction on your moves — the columns are limited in depth, and that shallowness is the whole idea.
Cheap spaces are still spaces. Twelve shallow columns mean an empty one is only three cards away, and beginners fill them the moment they appear. Hold at least one open: in a suit-only game a space is the only place a homeless card can wait, and the value of holding one rises as the stock empties.
Dig above your aces first. Only three cards can ever be covering an ace at the deal. Clearing them is the cheapest foundation start available in the whole family — do it before the stock starts adding to the board.
The stock is two thirds of the game. Sixty-eight of the hundred and four cards arrive through the waste, one at a time, once. Every click should follow a board you have already played out.
Match twins deliberately. With two decks in play, ask which copy of a card is more reachable before you spend three moves excavating the other.
Almost every Forty Thieves variant is an argument about one dial: how much is hidden, how you build, how many cards may move, whether the stock returns. Limited argues about the deal itself. It keeps the parent's strict suit-only building and single-card moves and simply spreads the pack wider and shallower — twelve columns of three instead of ten of four. That puts it on the same axis as Lucas (thirteen of three, aces given) and Busy Aces (twelve of one, almost everything in the stock), and opposite Emperor, which keeps a deep board and hides most of it. Playing the three shallow members in a row makes it obvious how much of Forty Thieves' difficulty is simply the depth of its columns.
