York deals both packs face up across twelve columns of eight and nine cards and gives you no stock at all. The rules are Grounds for a Divorce's: a card lands on any card one rank higher and the chain wraps, so a king goes on an ace; only a same-suit run travels, and it may cross that seam; a completed run of thirteen same-suit cards may start at any rank and leaves the board. With all 104 cards in view from the first move and nothing to deal, York is Spider as a pure planning game.
Everything is known, so plan before you move. There is no deal to change the board and no hidden card to surprise you. Every dig can be costed exactly: count the cards above the one you want, and find a host for each before you start.
Empty a column early and keep it. With no stock there is nothing to fill a space against your will. An empty column is where same-suit runs are assembled from cards scattered across the board, and the shorter eight-card outer columns are the cheapest to clear.
The wrap is a resource. A king is not a dead top: it takes a queen, and it sits on an ace. Runs may begin anywhere, so a suit that is scattered can be gathered in whatever order the board offers and still count when it reaches thirteen.
Two of each card, and both matter. When a run needs its next card, the two copies are both visible. Take the one that is cheaper to free, and remember the other is a second chance.
Spider's identity is the collected suit run; most of the family adds a stock that deals a row at a time, and the stock is where the luck lives. Mrs Mop removes the stock from Spider; York removes it from Grounds for a Divorce, keeping the cycling ranks and the any-base runs, and widens the board to twelve columns so that all 104 cards fit face up. It is the family's most open board and one of its most demanding.
