Play School Solitaire Online — Rank Fans With Two Redeals

School deals the pack into sixteen fans of three with the aces on the foundations and lets a card move only onto a card of the same rank. There is no limit to how many cards a fan may hold, an empty fan takes nothing, and at any moment you choose the fans may be gathered, shuffled and dealt again — twice in a game. It is Troika without the cap and with La Belle Lucie's second and third chances, which makes it the friendliest of the rank-fan games and the one where the redeals do the real work.

Strategy

Gather ranks, but only the ones that will bank. Without a cap you can pile every seven onto one fan — and then have buried whatever was under three of them. Gather a rank when its suits' foundations are close to it; otherwise leave the fans short.

A redeal is a reshuffle of what is left. Everything banked stays banked. Before you redeal, bank every card you can and dismantle nothing you cannot bank; a long fan that goes back into the shuffle is a long fan wasted.

Play the low cards first, always. With the aces up the twos bank on sight, then the threes. Each foundation wants exactly one rank next, and the game is about reaching those four cards.

Spend the first deal on information, the last on winning. The first pass shows you where the low cards sit and empties what it can; the third pass is the one that has to finish. Because matching ranks can always be shuffled between fans, the board is rarely stuck outright — redeal when no move banks anything or frees a card that will.

Where It Sits in the Fan Family

The fan family deals the whole pack into small face-up fans and plays from their tops. Troika, Quads and School build by equal rank rather than in sequence. Troika caps its fans at three and gives one deal; Quads allows fans of four with open spaces; School removes the cap entirely and borrows La Belle Lucie's two gathered redeals. It is the rank-fan game to start with.

About This Version

School runs in your browser — free, no download, no sign-up. Install it as an app on your phone or computer and it works offline. You get unlimited undo, a hint button that names a legal move, statistics that track your wins and times, and seeded deals: every game has a seed you can replay, so a board you enjoyed (or lost) can be played again exactly.
